Mangoes of Bangladesh are famous in the world. Fazli is known to all.

Fazli is a famous variety of mango in the world. Shape, size, beauty and taste of Fazli are unparallel. One KG weight for a unit of Fazli is taken to be near to minimum. Fazlis are often found 1-3 KG even sometimes more than that. It is not round rather long in different shapes. It gets maturity at the last of mango season and lasts for two to three months. People wait anxiously looking forward to seeing Fazli available in the market.  There are more than 150 varieties of mangoes in Bangladesh. Mangoes are produced more or less in everywhere in the country. All of those end by July and fruit traders become ready to sell Fazli. Though Fazli tops the list, many of those varieties are also as sweet as Fazli is. Fazli tops the list with its complete qualities. Districts like Rajshahi, Chapainawabgonj, Nawabgonj, Naogaon and Dinajpur are famous for sweet varieties of mangoes. Fazlis are also produced there. Rajshahi and Chapainawabgonj are particularly mentionable for sweet mangoes. Sour varieties of mangoes are not found in Rajshahi region. This special feature of mangoes of this area attracts the people of Bangladesh and other countries to become acquainted with the names of varieties. Mangoes of the other districts are of different tastes and sizes. Their productions are also limited within the locales. These are domestically produced in the convenient places of the house premises. These are consumed by the owners and few quantities which becomes more than the domestic need are sold in the local markets. These become available to consume at ripened stage in March and end in mid-May. There are some varieties among those which are sweet from green and are consumed more at the green than at the ripened.

Fazli

Rajshahi region is not only famous for Fazli but also for some other famous varieties which are also produced commercially. Names of the mangoes are exotic like Langda, Khirsa, Gopalvog, Himsagor, Mohanvog etc. Three to four units of those make a KG. They are nearly round. Langda is sweeter than even Fazli. Production volume of these varieties are also near to Fazli. They occupy the market more or less in June and end before Fazli appears. Orchards are not separated for Fazli alone. All types of mangoes are grown together in a garden and mangoes are picked up for sale as they are ripened. Commercial orchards are very large and expanded even over 40-50 hectors of land. Owners of these mango gardens are generally dependent on only production of mango. Return of mango gardens is much more than any other crops.  Besides this investment is very less though primary investment is very high. Some gardens are aged 20-40 years and are inherited by the owners’ successors. So inheritors invest less a year and get huge money in return. So gardeners never think of changing orchards to fields of other crops. Having a mango garden is a prestigious tradition.

Langda

Weather is very important for mango production. Unseasoned rainfall and drought can bring a huge damage to the mango farmers. Farmers do not sit idle on the destiny of mango production. Gardens are cared equally in the whole year. Agriculture offices are to remain busy looking after the gardens and to remain ready to respond to the calls of the farmers. The gardeners are also educated by experience and know what to do with unwanted changes of the gardens. So producing mangoes in abundance is not easy rather a business for the whole year.  Responsibilities are shared with the garden owners as mangoes are sold by the owners when they start growing. Owners of the products are then shifted for two to three times keeping pace with the growth of mangoes.

Mangoes in season are too abundant that huge amount used to perish in gardens, local markets, local stores and on roads few years back due to the lack of preservation, smooth communications and enough consumers. Communication has been tremendously improved and construction of Bangabandhu Bridge over the river, Jumuna, added unimaginable improvement in transportation sector. Mangoes are transported quickly to different districts by the traders without any riddle. In season, local markets, stores and roadsides of Rajshahi region are occupied by the sellers of Langda, Khirsa, Gopalvog, Himsagor, Mohanvog and Fazli. Wholesalers purchase mangoes not only from gardens but also from these places. Juice factories like Akiz Group, Pran Group and Sezan Group helped a lot sustaining mangoes keeping in their preservations. They purchase huge amount and thus lessen the probability of damage. They produced mango juice and sell in the local market in the whole year. They also exported to other countries. Fazli of Bangladesh becomes too famous in the world and the foreign countries imported juice to extract the taste of this special mango. Many investors are planning to invest in juice sector and we will have more types of mango juice in near future.
